​Can a lactation consultant prescribe?

Most lactation consultants do not have the qualifications to prescribe medications or other treatments. ​Pumping can be a difficult and time-consuming task, but a lactation consultant can teach you how to do it effectively. They can also help you troubleshoot any issues you may have with your pump, as well as provide guidance on how often to pump and how much breast milk to store.

How do you breastfeed a newborn baby?

How long does the average mom breastfeed?

Typically, the average mother solely breastfeeds for the first six months of her child's life, at which time she begins to add other foods while continuing to breastfeed for 2 years or longer. After six months of age, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advocates exclusive breastfeeding until the baby reaches one year old.
